94 Million Suffer from Cataract
The loss or deterioration of one’s eyesight can feel frightening, leaving them to wonder about their ability to maintain independence, pay for medical care, retain employment, and provide for their families. In 2023, HHRD conducted free eye examinations/screening and provided primary eye care to 40,450 patients, in addition to 9,216 Cataract surgeries in 16 countries and 6 refugee populations: Kenya (Ethiopian, Congolese and South Sudanese refugees), Somalia/Somaliland (Yemeni refugees), Jordan (Syrian and Palestinian refugees), Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Mali, Gambia, DRC (Congo), Ethiopia, Madagascar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
