The country of Malaysia has been facing severe flash flooding since December 17, 2021 across 33 districts in 8 states. Over 60,000 were initially displaced in 430 evacuation centers. A total of 48 lives have been claimed as 22,000 remain in evacuation centers. This has been the worst flooding in decades as the country grapples with assessing the damage. There is a heightened risk of waterborne diseases and infections as flood waters remain stagnant.
HHRD has launched an emergency campaign for Malaysia Relief to provide essential relief items to families in need. The worst affected areas of these floods are Selangor, Pahang, Kelantan and Johor where countless people remain in homes submerged in water as they await assistance. Highways remained closed and electricity supply is limited to none as rescue operations continue.
