EL Niño is a weather configuration that starts in the Pacific Ocean by the equator and affects climate throughout the world. Substantial rains associated with EL Niño, followed by severe flash floods, have overrun townships across East and the Horn of Africa, leaving many as internally displaced persons. As of November 24th, 2023, in Kenya, more than 60 people have died and an estimated 136,025 people displaced due to flooding. The number of people displaced by heavy rains and floods in Somalia were about 649,000.

As a registered INGO, HHRD conducts several developmental programs and projects in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Tanzania such as the ‘School of Excellence’ in Somalia, Healthcare and Nutrition, Water for Life (water accessibility), WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene), Orphan Support, Children with Disabilities, Skills Development and Livelihood, Youth Empowerment and seasonal programs.
